A New Small Firm (4 Minute Read)

Hirji Law Corporation is a new law firm focused on providing litigation advice and representation to your small or medium sized business.  I created the firm out of a desire to provide legal services to small businesses in a more responsive, cost-effective way.

But Isn’t a Large Firm Better than a Small Firm?

It certainly can be – especially if you have a large company and you need a comprehensive package of legal services.  But if you’re a small or medium-sized business, or if you’re an entrepreneur starting something new, retaining a lawyer at a large firm to deal with a business dispute doesn’t always make sense.

Let me be clear on this: I’ve spent my entire career (so far) working at large firms – first at Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG) in Toronto and Vancouver, and most recently at Dentons Canada LLP (formerly Fraser Milner Casgrain).  I’ve been lead counsel on a number of complex cases, and I’ve also worked on large projects as part of a team of legal and financial advisors.  I know that a large firm can provide excellent “one stop shopping” when multiple services are needed in short order –  but for smaller files, a lawyer at a large firm can’t always respond to your situation in a way that is both timely and cost effective.

Clear Advice, Real Value

Hirji Law Corporation was created in an effort to bridge that gap.  By choosing to focus on small and medium sized businesses, I can provide high quality service to companies who might not have been well-served by the large downtown firms.

My new office is a little different from the offices that I’ve worked in before.  For one thing, it’s a lot smaller.  I don’t have a full time assistant, nor do I have a mailroom or an accounting department.  I do, however, have plenty of technology, which allows me to access all of the same legal resources that I had access to before.  What that means is that I can continue to give my clients the same level of service – but with less overhead. For my clients, that translates into downtown quality, but with better rates.

If you need advice in an area that I don’t work in, or you need a larger team to deal with your legal issue, I can put you in touch with the right person or the right group of people – and help you instruct them on what you need.

At the end of the day, this small firm exists to help you get the practical advice that you need, so that you can make better business decisions.
