On August 14, 2014, the Canadian Bar Assocation’s “Legal Futures Initiative” released their report, entitled “Futures: Transforming the Delivery of Legal Services in Canada.” The full report can be found here, and the executive summary is here.
While the report will appeal mostly to lawyers and law students, there is something in for small business owners as well – the conclusion that client expectations are changing, and that lawyers will have to be “quicker, cheaper, and smarter” in order to satisfy client needs and expectations. To put a slightly different spin on it, lawyers working with small and medium sized businesses will have to become more like their clients – creative, resourceful, and adaptable.
Jordan Furlong has posted an excellent comment on the Futures Report on his blog, for those of you looking for some additional commentary on the report.
